Dr. Ray Powers President & Chief Executive Officer – Knowledge Innovation Center. Dr. Powers is former Associate Dean in the Forbes School of Business & Technology at the University of Arizona Global Campus. He is the Founder and Chair of the Board of Advisors, and has instituted a Forbes 100 innovative companies “thought leadership” summit for international C-level industry leaders. He has responsibility for multiple business degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervises Program Chairs, Faculty, and Associate Faculty aligned with those programs. He holds an AA degree from Phoenix College; a BS in Business from Arizona State University; an MBA with a specialization in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix; an MA in Education from Ashford University; and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. With nearly 40 years of corporate experience in business and technology, his responsibilities have ranged from technical and engineering operations roles to executive level positions. After a 30-year career within the Bell System, he went on to serve in C-level positions in several high tech enterprises focused on innovative technology development and deployment. Additionally, Dr. Powers has specialized in the area of mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, leadership training, and in the discipline of project management. He has served as the Director of Standards for the Project Management Institute, on their Board of Directors, and as a senior executive in Program Management in three major corporations. Additionally, Dr. Powers holds a State of California Real Estate Broker’s license. His broad-based business and academic experience exemplifies the value proposition of all Forbes School of Business faculty—the knowledge and ability to provide students with practical application of academic theory.

Accomplishments

Founded and Chairs the Forbes School of Business & Technology “Thought Leader Summit”. Attendees include C-level executives from the Forbes 100 most Innovative Companies; Flag Rank military officers; and C-level leaders from all sectors. The objective is insightful collaboration on rapidly evolving change in socio-economic, political, cultural, environmental, and technology environments. Results are of value to business leaders in sharing and learning from each other; and provide guidance to the University relative to the core competencies business expect of graduating students. Incrementally, it validates the need for establishing visionary programs, unique credentials for students, and is part of the initiative to differentiate the Forbes School as an innovative provider of leading-edge business education.

Envisioned and implemented the “Resident Scholar” program which provides business enterprise with access to in-depth research relative to their industry segment, and assist with strategic planning and future operations. In addition to industry segment benefit, a mutual value proposition provides an opportunity for faculty engagement in practical application of academic theory, and external insight on designing student preparedness in-sync with evolving industry demands. An ancillary value is incremental revenue that consultancy contributes to the institution.

Founded and Chair the Forbes School of Business Board of Advisors. The Board is comprised of successful, high profile international business leaders from a wide variety of industry segments. The Board provides vision and strategic direction relative to advancing the school and its mission of excellence, and is designed to assist with the objective to enhance student success in the business environment of the future.

Established and coordinate the Forbes School of Business speaker series events, which occur quarterly each year. Beginning with the inaugural lecturer, Mr. Steve Forbes, the speaker series activity is part of the Business College commitment to integrate with the business community, and to differentiate the business school by keeping students, faculty, and curriculum current and consistent with insight on practical application of academic theory.

Dr. Powers and two colleagues received a University grant to research “Teacher Presence in the Online Environment”. Research results were presented at several international conferences and contributed to refinement of methods and procedures associated with improvement of online programs.
